比爾蓋茲在今年（2019）10月於西雅圖湖畔高中演講時表示，有兩本書是求職者到微軟與比爾與美琳達·蓋茲基金會應徵時，「非常基本」的必讀書單。兩本書分別是《真確：扭轉十大直覺偏誤，發現事情比你想的美好》（Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World - and Why Things Are Better Than You Think）與《人性中的良善天使：暴力如何從我們的世界中逐漸消失》（The Better Angels of Our Nature：Why Violence Has Declined）。

《真確》一書是關於「如何讓生活變得更美好，以及世界有哪些地方仍然需要改善」。這本書可以算是比爾蓋茲最愛的書之一，他在2018年甚至送給全美大學畢業生人手一本可下載的《真確》。他在自己的部落格寫道，「雖然我認為每個人都該讀這本書，但對正要離開學校，邁入下一階段人生的人而言特別有益。」

It’s one of Gates’ favorite books, and in 2018, he gave away adownloadable copyto anyone who graduated from college. “Although I think everyone should read it, it has especially useful insights for anyone who’s making the leap out of college and into the next phase of life,” Gateswroteon his blog, Gates Notes.

比爾蓋茲在部落格另一篇文章提到，《人性中的良善天使》一書對「如何達到正面的世界提供一個新鮮的看法」，這本700多頁的書是關於捨棄暴力，並建立更和善的社會，這本書不只對歷史學、對世界也很有貢獻。

但他也提到，閱讀只是其中一步，人們應該保持積極學習的態度，並「持續更新知識」，他並推薦收聽廣播與觀看線上課程來進行學習。

Gates also said people should be eager to learn and “constantly refresh your knowledge.” He recommends listening to podcasts or watching lectures online.
